Jade was referred into us via Housing Solutions two years ago as being homeless. Jade has had a complicated history due to her parents previously experiencing substance issues and having to live between different family members throughout her life. Jade was staying between her boyfriend’s and a friend’s house.
Jade settled into her property immediately and proved to be a great homemaker – keeping her space immaculate and spending any spare money she had on items to make her house cosy and inviting. She really thrived on having somewhere stable to call her own.
Jade engaged really well and helped develop her support plan based around looking for work which she was keen to do, however, Jade did end up cancelling appointments more regularly. Her support worker arranged a volunteering opportunity but unfortunately Jade cancelled this due to illness.
The next time her support worker saw her, Jade had a bruise on her face and she explained she had fallen. This happened on a few more occasions, however Jade again explained these away when questioned. Neighbours and family had also began to report issues between Jade’s relationship with her boyfriend and possible abuse, which Jade continued to deny.
One visit Jade was visibly upset and said she had broken up with her boyfriend. Jade’s worker listened to her and offered emotional support. Again bruises were noted but Jade continued to defend her partner. She was reluctant to contact police but her support worker took her to a family member’s to make sure she was safe.
Over the next few weeks and months Jade eventually opened up about the situation and her worker supported her to contact police and make referrals into domestic violence services for specialist help with applying for a non-molestation order and putting safety measures in her home.
The abuse Jade had suffered also impacted her mental health and meant she was reluctant to go out in the local area and therefore was unable to continue with her plans of employment. Again, Jade’s worker helped get her into the GP and applying for relevant benefits.
Jade’s mental health began to improve and she started attending a Healthy Relationships course in her local area, which is designed to help women who have been in abusive relationships to spot the warning signs and have positive experiences in the future – which she has found extremely helpful as well as beneficial for social interaction.
Jade recently found out she is expecting a baby, which was a shock, but is a much welcomed addition to her new chapter of life. Jade was supported by her worker to apply for council accommodation so she can have a permanent home for herself and baby. Jade has been working hard to get ready for both these changes. She has come through a really difficult time and we are extremely proud, positive and excited for her future.
