Support vulnerable young people as a business patron

Homeless-Charity-Durham

Who we are

As Durham’s leading youth homelessness charity, we have been helping vulnerable young people find safe homes for over 30 years.

We support vulnerable 16 to 25-year-olds who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness because we believe every young person deserves a safe home and a fresh start.

Our aim is to break the cycle of youth homelessness in County Durham. We strive to enable young people’s transition from a place of chaotic housing need to a position of security, knowledge and confidence.

If you or someone you know is homeless, or at risk of homelessness, then our charity can offer advice and support

How we help

From homelessness prevention to housing support, we work with young people to provide them with the skills they need to live independently.

If a young person is experiencing, or is at risk of, homelessness, we can support them with advice to help them understand their options and make informed decisions about their housing situation. We provide intensive housing management, working in partnership with landlords to help young people to sustain their tenancies.

Helping Paul create a stable life for his own child

After a turbulent teenagehood in care, Paul was left struggling with mental health issues and using illegal substances to cope. A lack of support left him with few independent living skills, resulting in him sofa surfing in insecure accommodation.

However, everything changed when he was given the opportunity of support from Moving On Durham. Determined to get his life back on track, he worked with his support worker to develop, stick to and achieve a set of goals for an independent, healthy and productive life.

He has now secured his own independent accommodation and full-time employment. Paul will be moving into his new home with his partner, who is expecting his first child.

We love hearing why our donors have chosen to support Moving On - please let us know when you donate!
