We focus on giving vulnerable people access to decent and affordable homes in the private rented sector.
As a ‘social landlord’, Moving On Durham acquires properties from landlords and owners on a short-term basis to provide to young people who are in housing need. We manage properties to a high standard, meaning that young people have a safe home and can make a fresh start.
Following a successful stay with us, young people are supported to ‘move on’ into appropriate long-term accommodation or supported to smoothly transition to a secured tenancy in their current home.

Who we are…
As part of a charity focused on Breaking the Cycle of Youth Homelessness in County Durham for over 20 years, we can offer a truly unique service for Landlords with properties in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. We help homeless young people access properties in the private rented sector by:
Offering supported accommodation for up to one year so our current tenant can learn how to live independently in the community and manage themselves and their property well
Supported accommodation gives our Landlords piece of mind, with:
- Guaranteed rent even during void periods
- Free ‘Wear and Tear’ property maintenance ensuring conditions are as good as or better then at point of contract
- A smooth and managed transition to a ‘normalised’ secured tenancy and letting arrangements once the tenant has proven their ability to manage the property where appropriate

Our lettings team can also help to find and place people who are looking for property in the private rental market.
This may be a young person who has successfully completed a supported accommodation programme with us, or a member of the public who is looking for a decent home at an affordable price. We have a waiting list of local people who need an affordable property to ensure we let properties quickly and our tried and tested methods ensure that people tend to stay in their properties.
Our lettings team will:
Assess prospective tenants fully through our application process and check affordability
Advertise the properties extensively on social media, the Moving On website, Durham Key Options and Zoopla
Prepare all paperwork and conduct a detailed inventory before moving any tenants into the property

Sign-up a tenant who is unable to prove they can afford the rent on a property
Sign-up a tenant who is unable to provide addresses and landlord references where applicable

This package is available to all landlords as an add on package
